THE PEDESTRIAN PROJECT

Artist, Yvette Helin stagesThe Pedestrian Project, an interactive, social satire public art experiment where performers in black custom-made costumes modeled after the generic images of men, women, and children seen on public signs, mimick the going ons of everyday people.

The amazing part is to see the documented reaction of onlookers as they recognize or associate the actions of these recognizable graphic icons that come to life to mirror that of the publics’ busy lives.

doloresdepalabra:

The Pedestrian Project consists of several performers wearing entirely black custom-made costumes modeled after the generic images of men, women, and children seen on public signs. Mimicking the lives of everyday people, the roaming sculptural forms inspire the imaginations of onlookers, who often find themselves mesmerized as these familiar icons assume busy lives of their own.

DAMIEN HIRST DOES FOOD

There’s no escaping the Hirst machine…and now apparently art & eating go hand and hand. At least they do if you visit the chicken & steak serving, London based restaurant, Tramshed, you can view the huge ‘Cock and Bull’ sculpture commissioned from Hirst by the restaurant owner, Mark Hix.

Not that there isn’t any relevance here. Downstairs, beneath the restaurant there’s a gallery, aptly called… you guessed it ‘Cock and Bull’. Which houses art exhibitions that rotate every six weeks.

I’m not gonna lie -i’m going as soon as I’m back in the UK.

Today on the blog, I wrote a short blurb on my thoughts about the latest episode on PBS’s genius digital series, Idea Channel. Given that Tumblr is in the running for “next biggest gallery since the Saatchi, any thoughts?

Presently doing some aesthetic research, which means looking at the GPOY tag. How is this the twenty-first century, what would Nikola Tesla think?

With apologies to the poster, I’m going to borrow this great Instagram’d photograph of a Monocle magazine to make mention of the fact that I’ve made a post about the benefits (and, yes, detriments) of reading Monocle on the regular at the blog.

Phillip Stearns & the Year of the Glitch
This month, Tumblr took part in a project called Art Takes Times Square, where Artists Wanted gave us the opportunity to feature a Tumblr artist on a Times Square billboard. We chose Phillip Stearns from Year of the Glitch. Tonight (Monday, June 18, 7-11pm), check out Stearns’ “DCP Series” far larger than life above the Times Square crowds (plus a performance by Twin Shadow). Stearns lives in Brooklyn and works out of a studio in Bushwick. He currently has work available at Eyebeam and showing at Camera Club New York. Before you go though, wouldn’t it be enlightening to learn just how Stearns creates his work?
